My Story

When my younger brother Patrick was four years old, he was diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma. He underwent 18 months of chemotherapy before going into remission. Then, when he was 13 years old, he was diagnosed with leukemia. This time, Patrick underwent two years of grueling radiation and chemotherapy treatments before again going into remission. Today, I am happy to report that Patrick is a healthy 22-year-old senior set to graduate this May from Elon University in North Carolina. The doctors have described his recovery from leukemia as “nothing short of a miracle.” In honor of his two successful battles against cancer, we have named our team "The 2-Times Strong Campaign".

While I celebrate Patrick’s miraculous recovery, I cannot stop hoping for a day when people will no longer have to hear a doctor tell them that a loved one has one of these dreadful diseases. The impact that they have on the patient, their families, and their communities is devastating. Something can, and must be done. To this end, I have agreed to join this year's Man & Woman of the Year Campaign to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Since 1960, the five-year leukemia survival rate in children has improved from 4% to 80% today. Belief in conquering this disease matters. With your help, and the help of others, we can perform another miracle for Patrick and the countless other people who live under the threat of these diseases. You can be part of finding a cure!

Kick-Off Party at The Park

Last night, LLS held the official Man & Woman of the Year kick-off party at The Park at Fourteenth in downtown, D.C. It was a great way to start the campaign, mingle with all the candidates and meet members of the Society. Here are a few pictures below!

As of 12:01 this morning our campaign has officially begun! To donate, please visit our fundraising website. Now that we are able to collect money, please help us reach as many people as possible. How can you do this?

  • If you're on Facebook, join our group "The 2-Times Strong Campaign" and invite all of your friends
  • Send the link for our donation page to your contacts
  • Come out to our events and bring your friends! Even if you don't live in our area, we will be having events throughout the country, be sure to check out our calendar for upcoming events near you
